Snowball effect of traffic in and out of Brisbane after multiple crashes

Traffic on both sides of Brisbane is slowly returning to normal after multiple incidents and school holidays created a ‘snowball effect’.

Traffic on both sides of Brisbane is slowly returning to normal after peak hour chaos this afternoon with a mix of commuters finishing work mixed with holiday makers getting away for the final week of the school break.

Emergency services reported multiple minor crashes that have created a snowball effect of traffic delays.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said there were no major incidents but school holiday traffic was the delays worse.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads reported gridlock on the Pacific Motorway into the city north from Beenleigh.

The length of the Gateway Motorway was also at a standstill while the Bruce Highway experienced varying levels of gridlock until Caboolture.

A Queensland Ambulance service spokeswoman said no one was injured in a car and motorbike crash on the Gateway Motorway near exit 103 and Deagon.

As of 6:30pm, a 20-minute delay was still being experienced by motorists heading to the Gold Coast from Brisbane.
