Police have a charged a second man over the shooting of a stranger in the street in Underwood, Logan.
The 20-year-old Springwood man was shot in the back just after midnight on March 16 as he walked along Logan Rd, after he had been out with family at a mosque earlier in the night.
At the time questions were raised about whether the attack was motivated by hate but a police prosecutor later said the incident was not alleged to be a hate crime.
Brooklyn Te-Hake Henare Ruatara, 23, was charged over the shooting and the Brisbane Magistrates Court heard he allegedly made admissions to an undercover officer that he had links to the Mongrel mob gang.
He has been charged with three counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
On Tuesday, police charged a 25-year-old man.
He has been charged with three counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of contravene access order.
He is expected to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 1.
No pleas have been entered by either man.
The Courier-Mail understands the 25-year-old charged on Tuesday is a practising Muslim.
After the shooting the Australian Muslim Advocacy Network (AMAN) called for police to conduct a thorough investigation and questioned the motives.
“There are growing concerns about why no arrest has been made and whether there is an ongoing threat to the community,” the statement read.
“Our community is deeply distressed for this young man and his family and needs to hear that it is being taken seriously.”
After the charges were laid on Tuesday Detective Acting Inspector Daniel Cunningham said a multi-layered response to the investigation continued to be a priority for the police service.
“We will continue to target this type of behaviour, and our officers remain focused on investigating and taking action against those involved,” Detective Acting Inspector Cunningham said.
