The Gold Coast has scored another entertainment coup, with ’90s rockers Green Day to play their sole Queensland show at Robina.

The trio, known for a string of hits including Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) and Boulevard of Broken Dreams, will tour Australia in 2025, with three shows in March.

The Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney are all getting a visit from the pop-punk rockers - but not Brisbane.

It’s understood the Gold Coast show was secured via months of negotiations between Experience Gold Coast and promoter Live Nation.

Tourism sources say the Gold Coast’s growing number of sold-out concerts helped get it across the line and would help pave the way for more exclusive shows.

Green Day’s The Saviors tour will see the band perform tracks from their recent album of the same name, as well as both the Dookie and American Idiot albums in full, to mark respective 30th and 20th anniversaries of both releases.

Organisers are tipping the Gold Coast gig to be a sellout, with more than 30,000 tickets set to be up for grabs.

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn, freshly returned from the Paris Paralympics, said hosting the band’s sole concert in the state would deliver greater economic dividends for the city.

“Green Day are a globally renowned band and we are absolutely excited by this, it’s great news,” he said.

“It’s too early to nominate the size of the impact to the visitor economy but it is Queensland exclusive and it’s being held on a Wednesday and midweek is something we are very focused on because it brings more people here who want to stay on the Gold Coast longer.”

Mr Warn said the city’s strategy was focused on bringing more people in for events during the week rather than the heavily booked weekends.

“Strategically we are very focused on growing midweek because we do not need to focus on growing weekend visitation that much.

“Having an event in March in the middle of the week is a huge coup for the Gold Coast.”

The Gold Coast concert, on March 5 at Cbus Super Stadium, will be the final stop on the tour.

The supporting act is Canadian rock bad AFI.

General ticket sales begin on September 20 from noon, with pre-sales beginning on Monday, September 16.

The band said in a statement it was looking forward to returning to Australia.

“We’ve never been more excited to unleash new music than with Saviors, a record that’s meant to be rocked live, together,” the statement reads.

“And we can not wait to return to Australia, it’s been way too long. So let’s thrash.”

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said it was a “green day for the Gold Coast”.

“It is such a coup for the Gold Coast to attract one of the globe’s biggest rock bands to the city for their only Queensland performance.

“We look forward to more than 30,000 people being here at Cbus Super Stadium to see one of our great rock bands of all time.

“We did a workshop yesterday and it’s interesting to be announcing this today because it was made evident that the best age bracket for travel right now is the exact target audience of Green Day.

“We nailed it.”
