The most popular baby names in Queensland have been revealed, with a traditional girls name reclaiming the top spot after several years, while a well-liked boy’s name has continued its streak at the top of the list.

Data released by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages reveals that Charlotte was the most popular baby name for girls in Queensland last year, while Oliver was the top choice for boys in the state for the 12th year running.

The data also revealed 6252 different first names were given for boys, while 7019 different first names were given for girls across Queensland.

In 2024, there were 319 newborns named Charlotte, which saw the name reclaim the title for most popular girl name for the first time in four years.

The next most popular names for girls were Isla, Olivia, Amelia, Matilda, Harper, Mia, Hazel, Willow, and Grace.

Meanwhile, there were 445 newborns named Oliver in Queensland last year as the popular name continued its dominance at the top.

Oliver was followed by Theodore, Noah, Henry, Hudson, Luca, Leo, William, Charlie, and Jack.

Attorney-General and Minster for Justice Deb Frecklington said naming a child is a “huge decision” for parents and she is always interested to see what names are trending.

“It’s often a huge decision for parents what to name their new arrival and one that many agonise over for the whole nine months, if not more,” Ms Frecklington said.

“Oliver has been the number one pick for boys for more than a decade and I can just imagine how many Olivers there are, not only at mothers’ groups rights now, but also in kindy and school classrooms across Queensland.

“As a mother of three girls, I’m also interested to see which girls’ names are the most popular and Charlotte has been a strong contender for a number of years.

“Unfortunately, having looked through the top 100 girls’ names, there were no variations of Deb in sight though.”
