Queensland election 2024: LNP won’t reveal full costings before October 14

Early voters will be left in the dark over the LNP’s tax policy, with Opposition Leader David Crisafulli confirming his full costings would not be released prior to October 14.

Early voters will be left in the dark over the LNP’s tax policy, with Opposition Leader David Crisafulli confirming his full costings would not be released prior to October 14.

Mr Crisafulli did not rule out future changes to tax, repeating previous pledges to abolish the “patient tax” and stamp duty tax for first home buyers.

He also refused to say how much the LNP had racked up in election promises so far.

“Every announcement we are making, I’m getting to you down to the dollar, and we’ve got a Shadow Treasurer who has a lifetime of credibility in this space,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“We haven’t been flippant with numbers, we’ve been exact, and we’ve spoken about what certainty looks like into the future, and Queenslanders will get that.”

MrCrisafulli, taking his campaign to Redlands on Saturday, guaranteed yesterday’s $18m pledge to place trackers on Queensland’s worst DV offenders would not come out of existing police or corrections budgets.

“When I stand here and make announcements like the one today, that is additional money, and it’s money that’s fully costed and fully funded,” he said.

Pressed again, Mr Crisafulli would not say how his election commitments would be funded.

At a media conference at Redland Bay, he announced the LNP would invest $35m into rubbish traps in the Redlands area to prevent large plastics from polluting Moreton Bay waters.

Up to 100 bins will be placed into storm water drains, under the policy coined Zero Litter to the Bay.

It’s the second environmental funding commitment made by the LNP in just week one of the campaign following a $600,000 funding pledge for turtle rehabilitation in Cairns.

The plastic traps will be installed by private company Ocean Protect.

Ocean Protect head engineer Brad Dalrymple said the technology was not new.

“At Ocean protect we’ve installed about 66,000 assets just ourselves, Brisbane City Council already has about 600 living traps,” he said.

“They’re not a new technology, but I think we need more of them to better protect our waterways.”

The $35m fund would see the program through to 2030 with a goal to remove 6000 wheelie bins worth of plastics.
