Quarantined Gold Coast couple get drone wine delivery aboard Diamond Princess

They might be confined to their tiny cabin aboard the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship, but a Gold Coast couple have shown Australians know how to be inventive in a crisis.

Another 41 cases of coronavirus confirmed on board cruise ship

A Gold Coast couple stuck on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship say they are going “troppo” with nothing to do as they are confined to their tiny cabin.

But Jan and Dave Binskin from Palm Beach, like all Aussies, know how to be inventive in a crisis so on day three they had their wine club deliver their favourite drop by drone to the ship which is cruising off the coast of Japan.

Kimberly Vincent, 73, says she needs medication to keep her alive on-board the Diamond Princess

The delivery apparently flummoxed the Japan Coast Guard.

The holidaying couple now have their own happy hour even if they can’t make it to the any of the ship’s many bars.

The couple fear that they may be restricted to their cabin for more than 14 days as the number of passengers with coronavirus rises.

They revealed the intense procedures passengers must adhere to prevent more spread of Coronavirus.

The Gold Coast couple said it seemed like “Russian roulette” as to who was going to be next to test positive.

Passengers are allowed out of the cabin for an hour-and-half with masks and gloves and people must stay a metre away from each other.

All passengers have been given thermometers and must report if their temperature hits over 37.5C.

A post on their Facebook says it “may be 28 days as they found another 10 positive cases and are taking them ashore”.

But the quarantine is taking its toll — it’s more than just boredom or cabin fever — the couple say the lack of physical exercise is “inhumane” and feels like “incarceration”.

They posted to Facebook: “On a serious note to all our friends can you pound this on social media and to the Australian Government, we have 200 Aussies on our boat the Diamond Princess many are in inside cabins no natural light, fresh air only airconditioning and are confined to there (sic) cabins for 14 days. This is inhuman and total incarceration. The Government has to evacuate us to a suitable site. There are also medication, mental and lack of physical exercise issues help please.”

The Diamond Princess has more than 3700 crew and passengers aboard.

Meanwhile the Binskins are doing their best to keep their spirits up and Jan is now calling for a quick delivery of her knitting needles.
