Police continue investigations after man’s body found in Brisbane River

Mystery continues to surround the identity of a man whose body was pulled from the Brisbane River as a police investigation enters its third day.

Mystery continues to surround the identity of a man whose body was pulled from the Brisbane River as a police investigation enters its third day.

The body was found in the water beneath the Story Bridge at Kangaroo Point at 7.30am on Monday prompting detectives to launch an investigation into the man’s death.

Queensland Police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the identity of the man was still not known.

He was described as caucasian, aged in his late 40s or early 50s, 175cm in height, proportionately built, with short dark hair tinged with grey.

He was clean shaven, without tattoos or jewellery.

It is unknown what clothing he was wearing at the time.

On Monday, Water Police helped retrieve the body and placed it with authorities at Captain Burke Park where a crime scene was declared.

Detectives are confident someone will come forward with information as investigations continue and urged the community to check on their loved ones.

Phil Allan, a Kangaroo Point resident who lives only metres from the park where the body washed ashore said neighbours were shocked to learn of its discovery.

Mr Allan said many members of the tight-knit community often used the beach next to Captain Burke Park to launch their kayaks.

“After getting back from a run about 8am, I saw a large collection of police and paramedic vehicles and wandered down to see what was happening … thankfully a neighbour stopped me and said she was on the beach when the body was pulled ashore,” Mr Allan said.

“It was quite a shock because obviously you’re concerned about anything that happens in your area.

“I’m a kayaker and normally use that beach every few days so I’m glad this morning I decided to go for a run.”

Mr Allan said another neighbour was walking along the Story Bridge almost directly above the crime scene as detectives outlined the body and covered it.

He said the strong tides heading in from the ocean suggested the body would have washed towards the bridge from the New Farm direction.
