Hollywood heavyweight Owen Wilson has been spotted in Brisbane’s New Farm Park, filming scenes for his latest big-budget thriller Runner.

Locals were caught off guard as the Wedding Crashers and Loki star, dressed in a pink button-up shirt, relaxed on a park bench surrounded by cameras, crew, and production equipment near the Hopetoun Way end of the park on Saturday afternoon.

Wilson, 56, who touched down in Australia late last month, is starring alongside Reacher actor Alan Ritchson in the high-stakes action film, which is being shot across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Directed by Expendables 4 filmmaker Scott Waugh, Runner follows a high-end courier (Ritchson) tasked with transporting a lifesaving organ across town, only to find himself in a deadly chase.

Wilson plays Ben, a medical courier reluctantly caught up in the mission.

Unlike many international productions that film in Queensland while portraying other global locations, Runner will feature Brisbane and the Gold Coast as themselves, highlighting the state’s urban and coastal landscapes on screen.

The production, backed by Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, is expected to pump around $20 million into the local economy and create almost 90 jobs for Queensland cast and crew.
