A police investigation into a protest involving hundreds of unionists storming a Brisbane CBD government building has wrapped up — with one person hit with a fine.
Public servants working at Transport and Main Roads headquarters on Mary St were put at risk, a security guard knocked down, the building locked down, and events cancelled after more than 200 CFMEU members entered the office block about 9am on August 23.
CFMEU assistant state secretary Jade Ingham, who attended the protest, said at the time that the furore over the demonstration was a “storm in a teacup” due to a “hysterical response” from the facility manager of the building
The department at the time confirmed staff members had been exposed to “upsetting and unacceptable behaviour” with protesters eventually making their way to a conference room.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Transport Minister Mark Bailey at the time condemned the protest as disgraceful and unacceptable, and called on the CFMEU to apologise — which it did not.
Queensland Police on Friday confirmed the investigation into the protest had been finalised.
A 47-year-old man was hit with a fine for public nuisance.
It has been confirmed the fine was for $431.
The annual Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program industry briefing was due to be held in the Mary St building that morning on August 23 with TMR director-general Neil Scales also scheduled to speak.
But the event was cancelled after the CFMEU members made their way into the building and occupied a conference room.
