In 2016 Jake claimed Queensland Motocross Championship titles in the 15 years 250cc and also the 13-15 years 125cc at Hervey Bay.

As news of the tragedy spread, many took to social media to pay tribute including his sister Beth.

“I’m so grateful for the time we got with you. I know you didn’t have enough time but honestly, I don’t think there would have been enough time in the whole world for what you would have done, Jake,” she said.

“Jake was the most dedicated, fun-loving, talented, kind-hearted, hard-ass I ever had the privilege of knowing and I’m so proud to be able to say he was my brother. He wouldn’t want a single one of us to stop the world for him; for this. He would hate this post. So as hard as it is, I know we will push harder than ever before because that’s what he wants.”

Close friend Jett Hicks described Jake as “dedicated, hard working, generous and selfless”.

“A friendship we kept consistent. Conversations that were always either about work or motorbikes. A mate I could rely on 100 per cent of the time, no questions asked,” he wrote on Facebook.

“The pain we all feel is a credit to the man you were. A life lived to the fullest, and nothing was ever done in halves.”

A Workplace Health and Safety spokesman said they were investigating the tragedy. It’s understood he was critically injured by a piece of machinery.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is making inquiries into an incident that occurred at Roma … to determine if the matter was work-related,” he said.

“WHSQ were notified of the incident by Queensland Police Service who were the first responders to the incident.”

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
