Shadow Minister for Housing and Public Works and Everton MP Tim Mander says there is a strong mood for change as Queenslanders start to cast their vote.

“In recent weeks, it’s really picked up,” he said on Monday from the Bunya Early Voting Centre.

“There’s an it’s time factor and people want to see a change.

“I experienced that today and I think it was more than normal.”

Mr Mander said housing was a hot issue with people expressing a strong interest to enter the market.

“People are wanting to get into the housing market, people are wanting the first homeowners grant more than once, people are wondering what other avenues are there to help get them into housing,” he said.

“Somebody asked me about the move to get rid of stamp duty on new houses, so people are pretty passionate about it.”

Labor candidate for Everton Michelle Byard said a lot of voters have been talking to her about cost of living and support for small businesses.

“Cost of living has been the biggest issue people have been coming up to me, they are saying that they want cost of living measures to continue,” she said.

“Support for small businesses, health, and women’s reproductive rights were also spoken about.”
