Police have charged a 25-year-old Gympie man following the track of a stolen vehicle between Benaraby and Koumala on Tueseday, March 18.
A statement released by police on Wednesday said it was alleged the man stole a black Mitsubishi Triton ute from an address on Barklya Court, Benaraby around 8am, before stealing fuel from a service station on the Bruce Highway through Benaraby.
Police began tracking the vehicle and successfully deployed a tyre deflation device in Koumala about 2pm.
The allegedly stolen vehicle came to a stop a short time later and the man fled the vehicle on foot.
Mackay Dog Squad tracked and found him, and he was taken into custody.
The man sustained a dog bite during the arrest and medical assistance was provided at the scene, before being taken to hospital for treatment.
It will be further alleged he was also involved in property crime offences in Gympie.
Between 5am and midday on Monday, March 17, the man allegedly entered a home on Flynn Road and stole a blue Ford Falcon sedan and several items.
Police stopped him at a business on the Bruce Highway, Benaraby around 6pm.
They then allege he resisted arrest and drove over a police officer’s foot, before fleeing, leaving the officer with minor injuries.
The allegedly stolen Ford Falcon was later found abandoned in Benaraby.
The 25-year-old has been charged with two counts of enter dwelling and commit, two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, one count of endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, one count of serious assault police officer, two counts of stealing and one count of failing to remain at place.
His police bail was denied and he was due to face Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
