Elderly Rosewood man allegedly held, 26 guns stolen by axe-wielding robbers

A group of axe-wielding intruders have allegedly held an elderly South East Queensland man against his will on his property, making off with 26 guns.

A group of masked intruders who allegedly held an elderly Rosewood man against his will during a robbery have been arrested.

Police will allege about 5am on July 13, two masked men armed with axes forced their way into an Albert St home where they threatened a 76-year-old man and restrained him.

It will be alleged the two men broke into a gun safe inside the house and stole 26 firearms before fleeing the scene in a van.

The 76-year-old man managed to free himself and call police after the men left.

On July 16, police searched a home at Boronia Heights and another at Caboolture where they located 22 guns allegedly stolen in the robbery, meth, drug utensils, a stolen motorcycle and rifle barrels.

Ipswich Acting Detective Inspector Michelle Blaney said police will continue to target the illegal gun trade and work towards the arrest of those involved.

“We know stolen firearms are often linked to major and organised crime so it’s important that we continue our commitment in preventing these types of offences from occurring,” Inspector Blaney said.

“We will continue to work with the community through proactive firearm awareness and education campaigns to make sure firearms are never a threat to the safety of our communities.”

A 35-year-old Springfield man has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent, robbery, deprivation of liberty, shortening firearm, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R and authority required to possess explosives.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates court on August 6.

A 29-year-old Murrumba Downs man has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit and possessing dangerous drugs.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on August 12.

A 33-year-old Boronia Heights man has been charged with 19 counts of unlawful possession of weapons, two counts unlawful supply of weapons and one count each of receiving tainted property, possess dangerous drugs, possess explosives and one possess utensils.

He has been remanded in custody to reappear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 25.

A 29-year-old Boronia Heights woman has been charged with 20 counts of unlawful possession of weapons and one count each of possess dangerous drug, receiving tainted goods and authority to possess explosives.

She has been remanded in custody to reappear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 11.

Investigations are ongoing.
