Dr Ramman Preet Oberoi-Gutteridge remembered following fatal Coolum crash

A devoted mother who ‘poured her heart and soul’ into her children, and was a successful doctor, has been remembered for her love of life after she was killed in a Sunshine Coast horror crash.

A devoted mother, successful doctor and beautiful Sunshine Coast woman has been remembered for her love of life and hardworking nature after tragically perishing in a horror crash last week.

Dr Ramman Preet Oberoi-Gutteridge died on Monday, October 7, in a crash at Coolum Beach.

The 48-year-old woman was driving a Tesla that collided with a Toyota HiLux on the Sunshine Mwy at Coolum Beach on October 7.

Police said about 2.35pm the cars were travelling in opposite directions on the Sunshine Mwy when the collision occurred.

The other driver, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The funeral service for Dr Oberoi was held in Buderim on Friday, October 18.

In her personal life Dr Oberoi was a devoted mother to her three children Archie, April, and Ruby and her nephew.

The funeral service heard she “poured her heart and soul into raising them...she was their biggest cheerleader”.

She was married to her ex-husband Michael Gutteridge for 20 years.

He spoke at her funeral and said she was a “beautiful, intelligent social butterfly who loved her study, work, family, friends, travelling and life”.

They met at a dinner in Brisbane before she was a doctor and enjoyed 20 years of “blessed and beautiful” moments together.

In 2019 Dr Oberoi was diagnosed with cancer but she fought if off with her ex-husband saying it just made her stronger.

He said she was passionate about gardening, was vegan, and loved staying active and fit.

But mostly she loved her family, friends and the people in her life.

She was remembered fondly for her work.

Dr Oberoi travelled from India to Australia on a temporary visa and worked two part-time jobs to fund her Australian studies.

Before her tragic death she was a successful specialist prosthodontist who spoke Hindi, Punjabi and English.

Dr Oberoi graduated from Melbourne University as a specialist prosthodontist with more than three years of specialised training.

She established a private practice in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast in 2015.

Her passion was helping clients achieve overall health through their smile.

She was known for being more than just a specialist with many in her field considering her an artisan when it came to her work.

Dr Oberoi-Gutteridge was a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Prosthodontists.

She had a strong passion for teaching and was involved in restorative and implant teaching with dental graduates, undergraduates, prosthetists and therapists at Melbourne University.

She also helped with the training of overseas dentists at Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Dental Education and Research in Toorak, Melbourne.

“I’ve worked directly with patients and hand-in-hand with wonderful local dentists to rebuild and perfect hundreds of smiles. I never tire of seeing patients’ social media feed explode with happy photos after we rebuild the smile they have been hiding for years,” Dr Oberoi said on her business website.

Growing up she was inspired by an uncle who was a surgeon, whose kindness and humility shone through in the way he treated his patients.

Dr Oberoi realised her goal was to connect with people and be there for them.

She was also deeply affected by the general health benefits good teeth can have for anyone. She believed good teeth could be the difference between struggling through life and enjoying life.

Queensland Police Service has confirmed investigations are ongoing and no charges have been laid.
