Four fighting for life after multi-vehicle crash

Neighbours have spoken of hearing screams and a bang so loud their houses shook after a truck-and-car crash in Caboolture on Sunday night left two women dead and a one-year-old boy fighting for his life.

The impact was so great the Hyundai i20 was pushed 15m after the car and a Coles delivery truck collided about 6.40pm at the corner of King St and Bellmere Rd.

The women, aged 35 and 50, were passengers in the Hyundai. They died at the scene.

The child was seriously injured and rushed to hospital, with a child seat flung on to the road.

However the 26-year-old driver suffered only minor injuries and the truck driver, 42, was not injured but taken to hospital as a precaution.

CCTV footage from a home on King St showed a vehicle moving at speed seconds before the impact which pushed the car 15m.

People could then be seen running out from their homes to help as passing cars slowed or stopped.

One couple who lived near the intersection said the collision rocked their house.

“It literally shook the house,” they said.

“It was like an explosion and we heard a scream.

“It was horrific, it was very brutal and confronting. This is honestly the worst possible outcome.”

Another neighbour Minish Pillay was watching television when he heard the crash.

“The bang was like a bomb exploding,” he said.

“There’s a lot of accidents here but this is the worst one I’ve seen.

“There are a lot of near misses and you get people doing burnouts here as well.

“Something has to be done about it.”

It was understood the impact caused a front tyre to come off the truck. Its rear door was thrown open, with items inside left scattered on the road.

Coles said it was offering help to its staff who were involved.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Police appealed to anyone who saw the incident or who might have dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
