A teacher at a Brisbane high school has been stood aside as an investigation probes allegations he smoked marijuana and drank with students.

A teacher at a Brisbane high school has been stood aside amid allegations he smoked and drank alcohol with students.
It is understood Browns Plains State High School teacher Ryan Calvert is under investigation after claims he allegedly smoke and drank with students.
A Department of Education spokesman confirmed it was aware of allegations involving a staff member at the school and its investigation was ongoing.
“The Department’s investigation is ongoing and the individual has been removed from the workplace,” the spokesman said.
“No further comment can be made for privacy reasons.”
A parent who said their child used to attend Ryan Calvert’s house in 2021 said they had allegedly smoked marijuana and drunk alcohol together.
“It was all boys (who would go),” they said.
“I think it was just him trying to be a cool kid.”
The parent said they were uncomfortable when they found out the teacher was hanging out with students outside of school.
“I did not think it was appropriate that this teacher was hanging out with students outside the school,” they said.
“That is not okay.”
It is understood concerns and complaints had previously been raised about the teacher.
The department of education confirmed a staff member was stood aside following questions directed to Ryan Calvert, Browns Plains State High School and the Department of Education from The Courier-Mail.
Sources said the Browns Plains State High School teacher had a reputation for alleged drug use with students including smoking marijuana and drinking.
The Queensland College of Teachers register search shows Ryan Calvert is registered.
According to the school’s Facebook page, Ryan Calvert was the Year 9 year level co-ordinator and was the Year 9 Dean last year.
His Facebook page states he studied at Browns Plains State High School as a student before getting a job there.
Browns Plains State High School is located in Brisbane’s south and had a total of 1100 enrolments in 2023 according to its annual report.
Ryan Calvert has been approached for comment.
