Chilling last texts from Australian mum who is missing in Mexico

The chilling last texts of an Australian woman missing in Mexico have been revealed, after her two-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets alone.

Mexican police rush to church after daughter of Queensland woman found alone

The brother of an Aussie woman who has vanished in Mexico and her toddler found dumped at a church, said his last message from her “didn’t seem right”.

A frantic search is underway for Queensland mum Tahnee Shanks, 32, who had been living in Mexico with her partner Jorge Aguirre Estudillo and two-year-old daughter Adelynn.

The Whitsundays woman was last heard from at the weekend.

Jorge is also reportedly missing.

Little Adelynn was found wandering the streets of Cancun on Sunday evening after being left at a local church, Shanks’ brother Dan told the Mackay Daily Mercury.

This is about 130km away from Tulum, a destination Tahnee was apparently heading to as part of short trip away with her daughter and ex-partner Jorge, who is Adelynn’s father.

The daughter is now under state protection in Mexico.

The last contact with Tahnee was apparently at about Sunday lunchtime in Australia, or Saturday night in Mexico.

Her family believes she was on the verge of returning to Australia after a relationship breakdown with Jorge.

It’s not suggested he is involved in her disappearance.

Brother Dan Shanks and his siblings and parents have been dealing with authorities in Mexico and Australia for the past couple of days and he has offered a $5000 reward for her safe return.

Tahnee had been living in Merida, 300km west of Cancun, “because (the city) was getting too dangerous,” according to Dan.

He says he fears the worst.

“To be honest, I think she’s already gone,” he said.

The ABC reported Tahnee had been trying to get her daughter home to Australia for months.

“She had the boyfriend in agreeance to sign the paperwork for her to come,” her brother Dan also told the ABC.

But the pair apparently had a messy break-up after he got another woman pregnant.

Dan said he last heard from his sister on Sunday via online messages that she was in a small fishing village with bad reception but “the messages didn’t seem right”.

“I’m assuming I was talking to him,” he said.

Tahnee’s disappearance has gone viral across the Yucatán Peninsula.

Pictures of Adelynn with police outside the Parroquia San Miguel Arcangel, where she was found, have been widely shared on social media networks.

Another of Tahnee’s brothers, Ben, who lives in Mackay, told the Daily Mercury he was sure his sister would not leave her daughter alone like that.

Ms Shanks’ mother Leanne and Ben will reportedly fly out to Mexico on Friday.
