A QUICK-thinking teen has told of the terrifying moment she saw a runaway pram hurtle towards Flinders St during a school excursion.

Without hesitating, Cassandra Grigoriadis, 16, of Pakenham, sprinted to the baby girl’s rescue, chasing down the pram and stopping it perilously close to the busy thoroughfare in the CBD.

Moments before, the school group was in Federation Square when a shout rang out: “Look at that pram!’’

“I don’t know what happened but I felt myself take off,” she said.

“There was a whole bunch of trams passing, which is what made me think, ‘what if I miss it?’ But I managed to grab it in time and I was so relieved.’’

The baby’s shocked and tearful mother thanked the Mater Christi College student for saving her child’s life.

Cassandra’s mother, Lisa, has nominated her for a Pride of Australia award.

“For her to react without hesitation is pretty awesome,” she said.
