BENDIGO great-grandma Pearl Heenan is always on deck to lend a hand.
At 91, she still has a spring in her step.
She could even be found on the springboard high above the pool until recently, diving to win gold medals in competitions across the country.
It is an impressive effort for a great-grandmother.
But even more admirable is the amount of time she has spent helping those with arthritis.
During 30 years with Arthritis Australia, Mrs Heenan has been teaching aqua aerobics at the local pool.
“Everyone’s got new hips. But you never hear anyone grizzle or grumble because we love it and we can do it,” she said.
“It’s really unbelievable how much we’ve been able to do — I’m a great advocate for hot water exercises and a good example because I can still garden every day.”
With 12 children, 32 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, Mrs Heenan has had plenty to keep her busy at home.
Her family has nominated her for a Pride of Australia award.
A humbled Mrs Heenan said she felt very blessed.
“I never waste a second of my time on Earth,” she said.
