July 31, 6.30am: A crime scene has been established after a man was glassed near a Woodroffe park.

NT Police established a crime scene along St St near the park, after a man was glassed on Thursday about 1.13am.

Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sean Patterson said a 33-year-old man was assaulted with a broken bottle in the park by another man who was “unknown to him”.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the offender is still at large.

“A crime scene has been established which will cause traffic diversions this morning,” Sergeant Patterson said.

“Sirius St is blocked to Woodroffe Ave with motorists advised to avoid this route.

“Serious Crime Unit is investigating the incident.”

NT Police arrest 28-year-old man accused of stabbing cousin at store in Moulden, Palmerston

July 30, 3.02pm: A man accused of stabbing his cousin at a store in Moulden has been arrested after he turned himself in to police, with charges expected to follow.

Authorities received reports of a stabbing on Moulden Terrace at about 7.20am Wednesday.

Northern Territory Police alleged a man, aged 28, had stabbed his woman cousin before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police said the woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by paramedics in a stable condition.

The man was later arrested after he turned himself in to the Palmerston Police Station.

Police said initial investigations have found other allegations of assault against another woman family member between the incident at the shopping centre and his arrest.

The man remains in police custody, and charges are expected to follow.

Woman arrested for allegedly breaching suspended sentence, spitting on officer

July 30, 2.50pm: A woman arrested for breaching a suspended sentence was forced to wear a spit guard after she allegedly spat on a police officer in Palmerston.

Northern Territory Police arrested the woman, aged 30, at about 7.50pm Tuesday in relation to an outstanding warrant for breaching a suspended sentence.

She was “placed” inside a police car and taken to the Palmerston Watch House.

While sitting in the car, the woman allegedly spat on one of the police officers upon arrival, striking the officer in the mouth, on her face and on her arm.

Police said a spit guard was used to “prevent further assaults”, and the woman was taken into the watch house without incident.

She remains in police custody at the time of writing, and she is expected to be charged late Wednesday.

Superintendent Rick Magree said the woman’s behaviour was “disgusting”.

“It is completely unacceptable that our frontline officers, who work tirelessly to serve and protect the community, are subjected to any form of assault let alone repulsive acts such as this,” he said.

OC spray deployed, five arrested as officer’s hand trapped in car door

July 30, 12.20pm: An officer’s hand was allegedly slammed in a car door while a woman allegedly armed herself with a log during a large disturbance that resulted in police using OC spray and arresting five women.

Police said Palmerston Social Order officers were carrying out patrols in the Yarrawonga area about 3.25pm on Tuesday when they were approached by a group of women, who allegedly became aggressive.

Police allege the group surrounded the officers and in attempt to de-escalate the situation the officers tried to withdraw.

As they entered their vehicle, one women allegedly slammed the door shut, trapping and injuring the hand of an officer in the process.

A 50-year-old woman was immediately arrested.

During the arrest, another woman allegedly armed herself with a large log and threatened the officers.

Police then used OC spray and left the area with a third woman allegedly throwing a glass bottle at the car causing damage to the rear passenger window.

Additional Palmerston general duties officers arrived a short time late and arrested four women allegedly involved in the incident, including the woman who damaged the police vehicle.

The injured officer was taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital for treatment to her hand.

Investigations are ongoing with charges expected to follow.

Man charged after alleged fight with machete in Darwin CBD

July 29, 4.30pm: A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged after an alleged ‘violent’ group fight involving a machete and rocks happened last night in Darwin’s CBD.

At around 7.35pm on Monday, an alleged group fight in a Cavenagh Street carpark was reported to the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre.

It was said one person was allegedly armed with a machete and was “swinging” it at those involved while others were throwing rocks.

Security staff managed to intervene and allegedly managed to confiscate the weapon from a young man before the group took off.

A spokesman for NT Police said officers attended and arrested the 19-year-old man nearby.

“He remains in custody and has been charged with Going armed in public, Breach of bail and Furnish false particulars,” a spokesman said.

“He is expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on July 29.

“Further investigations are being undertaken to identify an additional primary alleged offender involved in the incident.”

Police searching for four offenders after alleged home invasion

July 29, 6.30am: A 51-year-old Katherine woman was the victim of a terrifying home invasion when three males allegedly burst into her residence while she was on the phone to police just after midnight on Tuesday.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Langdon said NT Police received a call from the woman at 12.07am with the group allegedly taking her Toyota HiLux during the alleged home invasion.

Commander Langdon said the woman was not harmed in the incident and commended police for recovering the vehicle within 20 minutes of the initial alleged theft.

“Katherine general duties officers responded to the emergency call,” Commander Langdon said.

“The HiLux was spotted driving through Katherine and tyre deflation devices (TDD) were deployed at the low level bridge over the river and the Stuart Highway bridge.

“The vehicle attempted to return to Katherine where the TDD was successfully deployed, leading to a short pursuit.

“Near the Katherine police station four people escaped from the vehicle with all four offenders remaining outstanding.

“This all occurred within 20 minutes of the initial call.”

Commander Langdon said investigations to locate the four alleged offenders were ongoing.

Hotel Darwin smash and grab

July 29, 6.30am: A man and woman were arrested in Darwin CBD after they allegedly broke into Hotel Darwin early on Tuesday morning.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Langdon said the pair allegedly smashed a window at the famous pub before stealing a small amount of alcohol about 4am.

Commander Langdon said they were arrested near the West Lane car park a short time after.

They are expected to be charged with burglary, criminal damage and theft, Commander Langdon said.

July 28, 2.30pm: A young man has been charged after allegedly leading police in a high-speed chase with a two-year-old passenger on-board.

A driver, understood to be driving a white HiLux, allegedly led NT Police officers on a high-speed chase on Saturday in Palmerston.

In the end, officers allegedly used a tyre deflation device on Elrundie Ave to bring the vehicle to a halt at around 7.30pm.

A 23-year-old male driver along with a two-year-old child passenger were found inside the HiLux.

A spokeswoman for NT Police said the driver was arrested and charged.

“NT Police Force can confirm that a 23-year-old male has been arrested following a vehicle pursuit in Palmerston on Saturday afternoon,” an NT Police spokeswoman said.

“The man was arrested and charged with traffic and drug offences.

“He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on July 28.

“The child was safely collected by his mother from the Palmerston Police Station.”
