Paul Hogan keeps rolling on for his 80th birthday

“Is that how old I am?” Aussie actor and former Mick Dundee star Paul Hogan asked after being reminded that he was turning 80.

Paul Hogan to return to the big screen

Paul Hogan says he never makes “a big deal about birthdays”, so it’s probably fitting he kicked off the milestone event on Wednesday by taking out the trash.

It was lonely sight, the former Mick Dundee and his wheelie bin rolling side-by-side near his home in beachside LA.

But, from there, it was happy families as Hogan, ex-wife Linda Kozlowski and their son Chance convened at an up-market sushi spot to celebrate his 80th.

In an interview with the Australian Financial Review this week, Hogan said he didn’t acknowledge birthdays.

“Is that how old I am?” he said after being reminded about turning 80. “I don’t even think about it. I don’t make a big deal about birthdays — never have. A day spent alive is a good day.”

He and Kozlowski split in 2013 but remain good friends.

“It was a great example of opposites attract,” Hogan told ABC-TV recently. “And then one day, they’re just opposites. We never had any bitterness or fighting, never anything like that. Just sort of wore out and we moved on.”

In the same interview, he said: “I’m not a great husband. I’m good early but then it sort of runs out because I’m a little bit of a hermit.”

His new movie, The Very Excellent Mr Dundee, will be released next year.

He wants to live in Australia but says Chance needs him in LA.

“He is 20 but kids don’t tend to mature as fast these days as we used to,” Hogan told the AFR. “Seems you’re not really grown up nowadays till 30.”
