Immersive light installations, a lively music line-up and talks with some of Australia’s prominent Indigenous identities will be the highlights as Parrtjima returns to Alice Springs this Easter.

The only authentic Aboriginal light festival of its kind, the free 10-night festival kicks off on Friday, April 7.

Last year, the festival broke attendance records, with a total expenditure of $14.7 million across the duration of the event.

Parrtjima visitors can expect a diverse array of musical performances, with reggae, pop, rock, soul RnB and hip hop all on the line-up.

There will be performances from the funk-reggae Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, Paul Ah Chee ‘Ngala’, Richard Frankland and JK-47.

A series of In Conversation talks, tipped to cover a range of topics, will feature actor Steven Oliver, marathon legend Charlie Maher, media identity Naomi Moran, Aboriginal health researcher Roxanne Ngarulya Highfold, DeadlyScience founder Corey Tutt and former Northern Territory senator and Olympian Nova Peris.

The theme for the 2023 festival is Listening with Heart and is inspired by the artwork surrounding the Statement from the Heart, with artist Rene Kulitja leading the group of artists who will create a large-scale immersive light installation.

Major Events Minister Paul Kirby said this year’s music festival program was “visually stunning” and tipped thousands would visit the Red Centre for the event.

“Each year Parrtjima takes us on a journey through First Nations art and culture and this year we will be immersed in the world of the Anangu people of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands, as well as walk on the lands of the Arrernte people.”
