Why Premier Daniel Andrews was right about South Australia

Why would you want to visit South Australia? More so, why would you want to leave Victoria? Adelaide may have many wonders, but Melbourne is clearly far superior, writes Megan Hustwaite.

It’s been a shocker of a week for Daniel Andrews, yet on Wednesday the Victorian Premier bowled up a sledge the Australian cricket team would raise their bat to.

Commenting on South Australia opening its borders to some states — but not Victoria — Premier Andrews declared he wasn’t concerned.

“I don’t want to be offensive to South Australians but why would you want to go there?” he said.

Dan’s right. Get on the beers (responsibly and under current restrictions) here.

He went on to add “Holiday here … the best experiences in our nation are right here in Victoria.”

Preach, Premier, preach.

Why would you want to go to SA? More so, why would you want to leave Victoria?

Victorians certainly haven’t all agreed with the Premier over the past few months amid coronavirus and our state’s strict restrictions but I reckon we’re all on the same page here. We are united by our shared knowledge our state is superior.

This week he painted a scenic picture, something you’d see on Postcards.

“Go skiing, go to the wine country, go to the beach, whatever it might be. Victorians I think will be very keen to be close to home this weekend. It will be good for jobs, particularly a shout out to bush fire affected communities.”

Melbourne is the best city in the world for a million reasons. Why would you be itching to go back in time, albeit 30 minutes?

With restrictions gradually lifting, everything that tickles one’s fancy can be found right here.

There’s beautiful regional towns — many of which were decimated by bushfire and need our support — to explore, picturesque beaches and peninsulas, the stunning Yarra Valley and its fabulous fare, world-class dining in Melbourne and all those hidden gems we love in the city.

And things will only get better when we can again sit in one of Melbourne’s magnificent theatres and enjoy a world-class show. When we can be part of a bumper, parochial crowd at the MCG cheering on our footy team while burning the roof of our mouth on a piping hot pie. Gosh, I’ve missed that sensation.

It’d be easy to just lay the boots in and complain about how SA’s supermarkets close ridiculously early or poke fun at the delights they hang their hat on, namely flavoured milk, chocolate-coated dried fruit and a pie floating in soup but credit where credit’s due — South Australia has many wonders.

The Adelaide Oval is magnificent, the wine is wonderful, I know some fantastic people from there who have thick South Aussie accents.

It’s just that Victoria has its measure.

Andrews not concerned on SA travel exclusion

When it comes to football, there is no love lost between the states especially when it came to those fierce and sometimes bitter State of Origin showdowns.

We labelled them Crow Eaters and in return, they wanted to Kick a Vic.

The bickering continues today, literally, with Collingwood president Eddie McGuire feuding with his Port Adelaide counterpart David Koch over the Power wearing the club’s original black and white prison bar jumper. Yep, prison bars.

And Premier Andrews will be sleeping with the light on after Adelaide Crow Tex Walker this week called him a boofhead.

Tex needs to remember, Victorians, specifically Richmond supporters love South Australia after the Crows served them up the 2017 premiership on a silver platter.

So, in summary the grass is not greener on the other side of the border. It’s quite lush here.

Plus, if I was after average coffee and early-closing venues I’d visit Sydney.
