If you went nuts over Malcolm Turnbull being a fab grandad then take a long look at yourself
IF YOU lost your mind over this picture of the Prime Minister being a lovely grandad, I’d hate to see you deal with an actual problem, writes Wendy Tuohy.

AS HURRICANE Irma smashed Florida flooding homes and headlines, here in some small-minded sectors of Australia people were losing their minds over a sweet picture of a loving grandad.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull could have had no idea of the social media tornado about to hit when he posted this loving picture of himself and his baby granddaughter, Alice, at the weekend footy.
He was smashed as being “irresponsible” and a danger to the baby because ... wait for it, he was holding a beer.
People had a go because he was “breathing alcohol” on the baby or because they felt he shouldn’t be drinking at all while minding a child.
It was the most petty, puritanical response possible.
From some of the quoted comments you’d have thought he was drunk at the wheel with the baby on board.
This picture isn’t outrageous, it is absolutely heartwarming.
It is a reminder that politicians are people too, and that the bond between grandparent and grandchild is precious and beautiful.
It’s a perfect tableau of a grandad introducing his adored granddaughter to an experience many Aussies consider a rite.
The weekend backlash is a sorry reflection of the state of both our national dialogue and also the inward-looking tendency of many people.
That baby is blessed to have a grandparent who clearly dotes on her.
When she’s bigger let’s hope she laughs at this mad reaction to an innocent photo of her.
Turnbull, in that shot, is declaring how determined he is to be there for that little girl no matter how busy he is.
To see any risk to baby Alice in this picture is so far fetched as to be fantastical.
This grandad clearly poses no threat to this tiny girl.
As long as he’s had his whooping cough booster.
