Susie O’Brien: The c-bomb is never acceptable, especially when used by a man describing a woman
MAFS bride Ines is hardly likeable, but did it justify the foul language from her husband? A man can’t drop the c-bomb, then turn around and demand respect, writes Susie O’Brien.

It’s no accident that the most powerful and despised swear word of all is a term for the female anatomy.
This is why women hate the c-word. It’s demoralising, disrespectful and offensive.
Mind you, I am no prude and I love to swear. I famously have a mouth like a sailor.
‘JUSTIFIED’: VIEWERS REACT TO C-BOMB
One of my sons once swore when he was quite young, dropping the f-bomb not soon after he started school. “Where did you hear that word? Was it one of the kids in the playground?” I asked him.
“From you, Mum,” he said.
He had a point.
I love the b-word, often use the s-word and even drop the f-word on occasion. Okay, on a lot of occasions.
But I can’t stand the c-word because of its disrespect for women. I don’t use it, and I don’t like people around me using it.
Men, no doubt, are thinking that the same could apply to terms for the male member, such as the d-word or the other c-word, but it doesn’t.
Funnily enough, names for male anatomy don’t have the same power to offend, shock or upset as a derogatory name for the female anatomy.
I can understand, therefore, the outcry over Bronson’s use of the c-word on Married At First Sight last night to describe Ines, his on-screen trainwreck bride.
“Straight back to c--- mode,” Bronson said after Ines said she didn’t want him touching her or being in the same room as him.
Ines is hardly likeable. In fact, she treats him very badly, and has done from the start.
However, this goes with the territory on shows such as this. Bronson had every right to fight back against Ines, but the c-word is never acceptable, especially when it’s used by a man describing a woman.
“When you use language like that in relation to a woman, how do you expect her to respond to you? A tip from me to you: Don’t use language like that if you want any chance of a relationship with a woman,” MAFS expert Mel Schilling told Bronson.
“I’m not saying she’s a c---, I’m saying she acts like a c---,” Bronson replied. In my eyes it doesn’t make any difference.
A man can’t drop the c-word and then turn around and demand respect.
Some commentators today say Bronson was pushed into it because of Ines’ behaviour. One even suggested Bronson “showed immense restraint”. This is definitely not the case.
I don’t care how rude Ines was. There is never any excuse for the c-word being used, particularly by a man.
It’s a matter of basic respect.
