Bachelorette star Sophie Monk’s love for Stu Landy is real
SOPHIE Monk’s “resting bitch face” doesn’t mean they’re breaking up. Stu and Sophie don’t have to be pawing at each other to prove they’re in love, writes Susie O’Brien.

SOPHIE MONK’S entire public profile is built around her honesty and sincerity.
So why are people so ready to suggest she’s faking her love for Stu Laundy?
Here’s why I believe her.
Ratings for the show have been through the roof, mainly because of Monk’s down-to-earth nature and openness.
She’s talked a lot about how unlucky-in-love she is and she even approached Ten to go on the show in order to find “someone to love me for me”.
It doesn’t seem possible that someone who’s been so honest about her love-life failures would fake it at this point. It would go against the very core of her personality.
Unlike previous Bachelor and Bachelorette ladies, Monk is already well-known, so she’s not in it for the fame. As she said, “I’ve travelled the world and seen fame and it means nothing to happiness”.
I think it’s a good thing that they’re not all over each other.
Unlike most of the other couples who were all loved-up the minute the show ended, Monk and Laundy have been wary and guarded — just like any other new couple.
Just because they’re not gushing and pawing at each other on TV, it doesn’t mean they’re not in love.
There were those tense carpark photos, that turned out to be Sophie’s “resting bitch face” as she put it.
There was also that awkward interview on The Project, but as Stu explained, he’s “not going to be a public display of affectionate type of guy”.
He’s not some lusty, 21-year-old. Laundy is in his forties, has four daughters and is separated. This means he has a very good reason for holding back.
Sophie has said the same thing: “People expect us to be almost making out, but you put on the bright lights and you’re not going to be all over each other”.
Some of the couples from the show most applauded for their public displays of ardent devotion ended up splitting up soon afterwards.
Remember Bachelorette Sam Frost and her chosen one Sasha Mielczarek? During the 2015 finale, she told him: “From the very first moment that I met you, I got a feeling that I never got before. I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you. I feel so blessed that you are here”. But 18 months later it was splitsville.
And then there was Blake Garvey and Louise Pillidge from 2014. He was so in love with her that he threw over his first choice — Sam Frost — in favour of his runner-up. But they didn’t last either. Same goes for Richie Strahan and Alex Nation from last year, who were all over each other at first, only to admit they’d broken up well before they made it public. Now Alex is dating chef and football teammate Maegan Luxa.
Monk insists she has found love: “totally 100 per cent, it’s incredible”.
Why is it so hard to believe her?
