South Australia appears determined to out-crazy Victoria and NSW with its latest lockdown.
The state has instituted a two and half kilometre travel limit and has ordered more than 200 people into medi-hotel quarantine facilities for merely being at an exposure site.
And, each draconian step is being cheered on by a lazy media drunk on fear, alarmism and the boost in traffic from daily case number announcements.
There’s not much focus on how many people are actually sick; for the record there’s one person hospitalised with Covid-19 in the whole state.
South Australia’s CHO, Professor Nicola Spurrier, has previously grabbed national attention for her bizarre advice concerning footballs and pizza boxes.
“We are looking at the seating at the moment and of course we are looking at the ball … if you are at Adelaide Oval and the ball comes towards you, my advice to you is to duck and just do not touch that ball,” Spurrier said last month.
On Thursday she was making equally bizarre ‘Where’s Wally’ analogies about finding the virus.
Premier Steven ‘Marshmallow” Marshall announced on Thursday that the state had recorded two new cases, a brother and sister in their 20s who had attended the Tenafeate Creek winery at Yattalunga which has now been deemed a “super spreader sites” along with The Greek on Halifax restaurant.
People who visited the sites at the exposure times are being forced into a quarantine facility even if they test negative.
No other state has ordered people who have tested negative into quarantine for merely visiting an exposure site. Why doesn’t the South Australian government trust its people to isolate at home?
Where are the civil libertarians and human rights advocates?
Is this Australia or a dystopian nightmare?
One can only hope that at some point sanity prevails and decent people stop tolerating these abuses of government power.
