Rita Panahi: Sussexes have cemented their reputation as woke grifters

Just last month, Prince Harry was lecturing the world about online misinformation but their latest tell-all exposes the Sussexes’ strained relationship with the truth.

Harry and Meghan have a 'fairly familiar problem' in the 'age of celebrity'

They say practice makes perfect but that doesn’t seem to apply to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the art of lying.

The miserable duo continue to be rubbish at fibbing, despite plenty of practice. In the past two years the pair has lied, misled and engaged in all sorts of incoherent embellishment in an effort to paint themselves as virtuous victims monstered by the royals, the press and the “racist” British public.

But time and time again their untruths have been exposed, from the revelations in the car-crash Oprah interview to their latest tell-all project, a Netflix documentary series.

After their performance on Oprah, outlets from the BBC to the Daily Mail felt compelled to fact-check the couple’s many false assertions and within hours of the trailer for the doco dropping, the lies and half-truths were again being exposed.

Indeed the one-minute promotional trailer for the duo’s six-part documentary contains no fewer than four verifiable falsehoods including footage of media pursuing former Page 3 model Katie Price being presented as examples of paparazzi hounding Meghan.

It also turns out an image of Harry and Meghan being “stalked by paparazzi” used prominently in the trailer is actually a picture of invited media for a Harry Potter film premiere taken about five years before the pair had even met.

The Sussexes have a somewhat strained relationship with the truth.

Wasn’t it just last month when Harry was lecturing the world about online misinformation calling it a “global humanitarian issue”? In fact, we were told last year that Harry was so passionate about combating disinformation that he’d joined the Aspen Institute’s comically named Commission on Information Disorder. “No one knows the full truth, we know the full truth,” Harry says in the doco’s trailer, but it’s apparent that the Sussexes have a somewhat strained relationship with the truth.

Harry has gone from being a beloved member of the royal family to a figure of derision. He has abandoned and attacked his family and filled the Queen’s final years with unnecessary stress and angst.

It’s clear he wants all the privileges of being a royal without any of the duty.

Some time ago this column dubbed the world’s most pampered victims “the ginger and whinger” and, my word, they have done everything in their power to live up to that characterisation.

Their journey from working royals to woke grifters is now complete.
