Donald Trump was right. Again.
Trump warned Europe what would happen if countries became reliant on Russian gas and oil and allowed the rogue nation to become an energy superpower.
It’s ironic that while the Democrats and their propaganda arm – the bulk of the mainstream media – pushed crazy conspiracy theories about Trump being a Russian asset, the former president consistently implemented policies that weakened Russia and its position in the world.
President Trump pulled out all the stops to halt Nord Stream 2, labelling the pipeline between Russia and Germany a security risk and signing new laws that imposed sanctions on any firm that helped the Russian state-owned gas company.
In contrast, Joe Biden last year waived sanctions on the company building the controversial gas pipeline. When Trump triumphed in the 2016 election there was a slew of alarmist pieces predicting he was a danger to world peace and would usher in an age of violence and conflict. But far from starting World War III, he engineered multiple peace treaties in the Middle East and Africa as well as executing policies that weakened Russia and China.
Trump consistently put pressure on NATO members to spend more to properly protect their countries and region from the likes of Russia.
For that he was attacked for “weakening” the NATO alliance when he was trying desperately to have complacent nations invest more on defence to deter the likes of Russia and China.
Trump criticised European countries that had allowed their economies to become dangerously dependent on Russian gas, particularly Germany.
Turns out having an energy policy designed to appease a truant Swedish teenager can leave a country exposed.
As the Wall Street Journal noted earlier this year, Germany’s decision to phase out nuclear power and cut its reliance on coal in an effort to bring down CO2 emissions has seen the country become reliant on Russia for heating and power generation. Russia now accounts for 65 per cent of Germany’s natural gas imports.
There’s no doubt Putin has been emboldened by the weakness and incompetence of the Biden administration.
Trump was neither weak nor predictable, he reportedly threatened to bomb Moscow if Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, according to Michael Goodwin in the New York Post.
There’s good reason why most Americans, according to the latest Harvard -Harris poll, believe Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if Trump was still in the White House.
Despite the lies, gaslighting and disinformation pushed by much of the media about Trump and “Russian collusion’’, a whopping 62 per cent of Americans say Putin wouldn’t have moved against Ukraine if Trump were president. The other 38 per cent are either lying or stupid.
