Rita Panahi: Anthony Albanese is grossly underprepared to be Prime Minster

Anthony Albanese is not across the details of his party’s election promises, so it’s little wonder Labor’s fortunes improved when each-way Albo was in isolation with Covid.

What exactly does Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese know about his own party’s policy platform?

It’s not just key economic data that the Labor leader is ignorant about but also his own party’s policy details, whether it’s border protection or NDIS.

On Thursday he again floundered when asked a simple question.

Not a gotcha question, not minute detail that a leader may find hard to recall but a straightforward question about what were the six points of Labor’s plan for the NDIS.

He couldn’t even manage two before walking out and coming back armed with a cheat-sheet, which he then read from like some recalcitrant schoolboy.

He then insisted, incredibly, that he knew the policy detail all along and was not relying on the cheat sheet handed to him by an adviser.

If you believe that then you’ll believe anything.

Earlier on Thursday Albanese had a bizarre outburst accusing a breakfast TV host of “reading from Liberal Party notes” because she had the temerity to ask him a tough question or two.

Allison Langdon asked Albanese: “You want to be the next prime minister. You want to run the country – shouldn’t you be across your briefs?”

It wasn’t long before Albanese was proving Langdon right by again failing to be across basic policy detail.

After his massive gaffe in week one where he revealed he was ignorant of the two most critical economic figures, the unemployment rate and the cash rate, Albanese has repeatedly referred questions regarding key policies to Jim Chalmers, Jason Clare, Tony Burke and other shadow ministers.

He has not done the work and is not across the details of Labor’s election promises.

It’s little wonder that Labor’s fortunes improved when each-way Albo was in isolation with Covid-19.

Several media outlets have thus far chosen to behave like a protection racket and not cover Albanese’s latest gaffe.

The more Albanese speaks, the clearer it is that he is disingenuous, grossly underprepared and relying on a combination of the “it’s time” factor and friendly media to get elected.
