Trump betraying Ukraine means America’s allies will know they can no longer trust it

Donald Trump’s deal with the Taliban in 2020 led to a catastrophic retreat from Afghanistan. Weirdly, he’s repeating the exact same error with his “peace” plan for Ukraine.

Trump says difficult dealing with Ukraine, may be easier with Russia

Last weekend showed Donald Trump’s immoral “peace” plan for Ukraine just means death for Ukrainians.

The US President has stopped supplying weapons and intelligence to Ukraine, including early warnings of Russian missile strikes, to allegedly make it serious about seeking peace.

But Russian president Vladimir Putin reacted as you’d expect from a war criminal who’s also invaded Chechnya, Georgia and Moldova.

He bombed Ukrainian cities harder.

Trump on Friday for the first time warned Putin he’d consider more sanctions on Russia for “pounding” Ukraine, but to media later he was back to his Putin-excusing worst: “He’s hitting them harder than he’s been hitting them and I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now.”

Indeed, hours later, Russia bombed apartment buildings in Dobropillia, in Ukraine’s east, killing at least 11 people.

Rational people would conclude that Putin, not Ukraine, is the problem, but Trump also said something chilling: “I’m finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine … in terms of getting a final settlement, it may be easier dealing with Russia.”

Yes, tyrants are easier because you can just give them what they want.

And Putin “just” wants Ukraine.

Weirdly, Trump is repeating exactly his mistake in Afghanistan, which led to America’s catastrophic retreat under Joe Biden.

In February 2020, Trump signed a deal with the Taliban – cutting out the Afghan government, as he’s now cutting out Ukraine – committing the US to leave Afghanistan in 15 months.

That only encouraged the Taliban to attack even harder, like Russia now.

The Afghan army’s morale collapsed, the US fled and the Taliban won.

The US looked so weak that Putin invaded Ukraine a year later.

Trump betraying Ukraine would be even worse.

America’s allies will know they can no longer trust it.

Some will drift to the China-Russia camp.

Finland and Poland say they may pull out of a treaty banning antipersonnel mines.

Poland said it might also need a nuclear bomb and military training for all men.

China smells Trump’s weakness as it readies for war over Taiwan.

Its ships “accidentally” cut undersea data cables off Sweden and Taiwan, and its navy held intimidatory live-fire exercises off Australia, Vietnam and Taiwan.

Trump says his plan will bring Ukraine peace.

But so far it’s brought only death and the fear of more wars.
