Greens defence cuts idiotic suicide in current war climate

The Greens have been against almost every recent effort to step up our military defence and now they’re oddly silent on Ukraine.

Noticed the Greens are quiet about the Ukrainians’ heroic fight against the Russian invaders? Shame, I’m guessing.

The world has been inspired by the Ukrainians’ fighting spirit, and especially by how they’ve slowed Russia’s advance by blowing up its convoys with drones and shoulder-fired missiles.

Western governments – us included – have rushed in more weapons to help Ukraine hang on, but about all that the Greens have said … nothing. Nothing other than call for sanctions.

Reason: because these Greens only last year put out their suicidally idiotic defence policy for Australia, calling for us to halve our spending on defence.

Yes, under the Greens, our already dangerously weak military would be half the size. We could never fight against a huge invading army as the Ukrainians do now.

In fact, Greens leader Adam Bandt has suggested we shouldn’t ever bother trying.

Two years ago, he attacked the Morrison government for spending billions more to protect us from a Chinese invasion.

He scoffed that more weapons were “unnecessary”, adding: “Australia is not going to be able to out-gun China.”

Just like Ukraine was never going to be able to out-gun Russia.

So no wonder the Ukrainian defence has shamed the Greens into silence.

You see, the Ukrainians are fighting with weapons the Greens wouldn’t want for us. Not in these numbers.

In fact, the Greens have been against almost every recent effort to step up our defence, particularly against China, which this week announced another 7.1 per cent jump in its already massive defence budget.

When the Morrison government said we’d get nuclear submarines, Bandt called it a “terrible decision” that would make us “less safe”, with “floating Chernobyls” in our harbours.

When the government allowed our American allies to send more marines to train with our soldiers and be closer for the defence of Taiwan, Bandt was once more against.

This, too, would “make Australia less safe”.

In fact, the Greens defence policy suggests the Greens would rather our soldiers fight the weather than an enemy army.

Point one of its aims is: “Governments to take urgent climate action to reduce the destabilising risks of climate-related disasters.”

That would be beyond useless. Australia could shut its entire economy without making the slightest measurable difference to the climate.

We’d just be broke. We’d have even less money to spend defending ourselves as the world gets a lot more threatening.

What sane person could vote for a party this dangerously stupid?
