Andrew Bolt: Two stunning examples of invincible ignorance

THIS week we have seen two stunning examples of invincible ignorance — the kind you can’t beat with facts or reason, writes Andrew Bolt.

IT’S invincible ignorance — the kind you can’t beat with facts or reason — and this week came two stunning examples.

Example 1: Julian Burnside, QC.

Global warming appeals to the invincibly ignorant because it is really a religion. What appears to matter most is not being right but seeming good.

That’s why our politicians develop green policies that destroy our supply of cheap electricity even though this makes essentially zero difference to the world’s temperature, given how small we are.

ANDREW BOLT BLOG: BURNSIDE CHOKES ON WARMING IGNORANCE

It seems that’s why Burnside, a prominent “civil libertarian”, demanded more such useless action with this invincibly ignorant argument on the ABC on Monday: “Our children and grandchildren will struggle to breathe if we don’t act sensibly and look at what the scientists are telling us.”

Unbelievable. After two decades of debate on global warming, Burnside still apparently thinks we’re talking about soot rather than carbon dioxide, which is just an invisible gas exactly like the stuff he breathes out.

Example 2: Julie McKay

Islam is the other modish faith that has apologists claiming black is white. “Islam means peace,” claim even government ministers, when “Islam” actually means “submission”.

ABC host Yassmin Abdel-Magied last week demonstrated the same invincible ignorance when claiming Islam was “the most feminist religion”.

She said this despite only recently returning from a government-sponsored trip to fundamentalist Iran and Saudi Arabia, where women must cover up and may not even drive cars.

Adbel-Magied was widely criticised, but enter Julie McKay, gender adviser to the chief of the defence force and partner at PwC.

RITA PANAHI: SHARIA LAW HAS NO PLACE IN AUSTRALIA

PUBLIC STORM OF CRITICISM OVER SHARIA LAW SUPPORT

Unbelievably, McKay accused Abdel-Magied’s critics of sexism: “We saw a telling example of what happens to women who stand up for gender equality ... ”

Wow. Memo to McKay: Abdel-Magied was not standing up for gender equality, but sharia law. The two are actually incompatible.

For instance, the Koran teaches that women’s worth as a witness is half that of men (Koran 2:282) and their husbands may beat them for disobedience (Koran 4:34).

But even if you somehow believe sharia law does promote gender equality, Abdel-Magied’s critics believed it does not and criticised her for not standing up for women.

Either way, McKay is completely wrong. It wasn’t sexist to criticise Adbel-Magied’s claim, but sexist to defend it.

Given MacKay’s invincible ignorance here, why is she advising the chief of our defence force?
