Donald Trump’s worshippers can’t believe he could make a mistake. But now his top foreign envoy goes on Tucker Carlson’s show and proves the US president relies on fools and sycophants.
Steve Witkoff isn’t a foreign policy expert. He’s just a real estate guy and Trump’s golfing buddy who donated millions to Trump’s campaign.
Yet Trump chose Witkoff to handle the two deadliest foreign crises today, dealing with the most brutal warmongers.
Witkoff is Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, trying to end the war Hamas terrorists started against Israel, and also flew to Moscow twice to beg Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire in the war the Russian president started in Ukraine.
It was worrying enough that Witkoff agreed on Friday to be interviewed by Carlson, a pro-Putin shill and conspiracy theorist who claims a “demon” attacked him in his bed and “left claw marks”.
But Witkoff also parrots Putin’s spin about Ukrainian territory rightfully belonging to Russia, although he couldn’t actually remember which bits: “these so-called four regions – Donbass, Crimea, you know the name Lugansk, and there are two others.”
In fact, Russian claims five regions: Crimea in the south, and Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kherson and Luhansk, as Ukrainians call it, in the east.
Witkoff then claimed these areas “are Russian-speaking” and “there were referendums where the vast majority of people showed that they want to be under Russian rule”.
In fact, Ukraine’s 1991 independence referendum showed more than 83 per cent of residents in those eastern regions wanted to be Ukrainian. Witkoff instead believes the clearly fraudulent “referendum” Russia held in captured areas in 2014 after a campaign of terror.
Worse, Witkoff even praised Putin, who’s invaded Ukraine, Georgia and Chechnya, kidnapped 19,000 Ukrainian children and murdered political opponents: “I don’t regard Putin as a bad guy.”
He even fell for Putin’s fake friendship, like a virgin in Dracula’s castle. He said Putin told of praying for “his friend” Trump when he was shot.
What’s more, “Putin had commissioned a beautiful portrait of President Trump, from the leading Russian artist, and … asked me to take it home to President Trump …
“(Trump) was clearly touched by it. So this is the kind of connection that we’ve been able to re-establish through, by the way, a simple word called communication.”
Really? Trump sends this sycophant to deal with a dictator, who thinks he can charm Trump with a painting of himself?
