Andrew Bolt: Thorpe’s feral stunt a sign of our future under the Voice

Like Lidia Thorpe’s vision of some civil war between the races, Labor’s Voice is based on some crackpot idea that Aborigines are merely the victims of an ongoing white oppression.

‘Legendary’: Lidia Thorpe ‘stole the show’ at Mardi Gras parade

I love Lidia Thorpe. Whenever people tell me the Voice is harmless – just “good manners”, claims our Prime Minister – all I need do is point to this monster.

Harmless? Just look at this Senator’s stunt at Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday.

There’s a living and screaming sign of our future under Labor’s Voice – a kind of Aboriginal-only parliament in an Australia that will be divided by race under our constitution.

Just look. There was Thorpe, who quit the Greens this month for not being radical enough, hijacking the Mardi Gras agenda by marching with her “no pride in genocide” sign.

Then, for a super-special climax, Thorpe lay on the road in front of the Australian Federal Police float screaming “f--- the police”.

Even better, when she got up she walked menacingly up to two police officers, getting right in their face and forcing them to step backwards.

She even yelled at an officer with a gay pride wrist band, poking her finger at their face, as if police were the enemy.

Indeed, last year Thorpe screamed at Victorian police at a protest, many of them women: ‘You are the criminals, you are the only criminals on this land.”

And for a cherry on the top, police at the Mardi Gras of course didn’t arrest Thorpe as they might if she were, say, a white Christian. Different rules for the likes of Thorpe.

So thank you, Lidia!

This even tops her anti-Australia Day speech last month, where she waved a “war stick” and incited a crowd outside Victoria’s parliament to think they were in a race war with other Australians.

“This is a war!” she shouted.

“They are still killing us. They are still stealing our babies. They are killing our men. And they are still raping our women.”

Never mind that statistics show the “they” most likely to murder or assault Aboriginal men and woman are actually other Aboriginal men.

Doesn’t matter! Thorpe shows we’re not just now in post-truth world, but a tribal one in which what one white person does to a black one is much worse than what 100 black people do.

Example. A couple of weeks ago the Alice Springs’ emergency ward was crowded with Aboriginal women who’d been bashed. Not a squeak from Thorpe. Doesn’t matter! Not as long as none were bashed by a white.

Thorpe at the Mardi Gras showed that same feral tribalism now fed by the Voice.

Police there couldn’t have done more to show they backed the whole LGBTQIA+ agenda, down to the last pom-pom.

The NSW chief commissioner herself marched in the parade with other officers. The AFP also marched. Both forces had floats. Many officers policing the event wore LGBTQIA+ colours.

To a gay activist, this was a triumph. The institutions of the state had joined with activists in solidarity. Even Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was marching.

But Thorpe could not celebrate that unity. Instead, she smashed it, because her tribal race agenda is bigger than the gay one. Bigger even than Australia.

She could not see the officers as individuals or gay supporters, whatever they had on their wrists.

To her they were just faceless minions of supposed white oppression – of “240 years of police killing First Nations people,” as she’s put it. They are “police that are responsible for killing our people”.

This is the paranoid us-and-them tribalism fed by the Voice, so toxic that a senator can now incite Australians into some race war without being charged or expelled from parliament.

Like Thorpe’s vision of some civil war between the races, Labor’s Voice is based on some crackpot idea that Aborigines are merely the victims of an on-going white oppression and wilful deafness. Culture has nothing to do with it.

We’re even told Aborigines like Thorpe, who has a white father, are so different to any other race that they now need their own de facto Parliament, followed by “sovereignty”.

This apparently will fix everything by forcing our federal government to listen to the Voice before acting, as if Aboriginal activists don’t have an outsized say already, and a Senator Thorpe doesn’t exist.

But worst, the Voice insists on tribalism – this primitive idea that what defines us most is our race. That there’s nothing bigger than our race to unite us, and certainly not Australia.

It pushes us to believe, for instance, that the most important thing about Lidia Thorpe is that she’s an Aborigine, and not just another outsized bully.
