Andrew Bolt: Liz Cambage should apologise for her hissy fit

A flattering bodysuit was all it took for Liz Cambage to backflip her threat to boycott the Olympics but the media has rewarded the appalling behaviour.

Liz Cambage doubles down on Olympic ‘whitewashing’ controversy

Basketballer Liz Cambage was threatening to boycott the Tokyo Olympics because we were so racist. But then we offered her a bodysuit that flattered her figure.

“Wooooo!” squealed Cambage.

“How can I sit out when we have the bodysuits back? I’m going to look so good in it.”

Which makes me wonder: how much of modern race politics is just look-at-me showboating?

And why do people kowtow to inch-deep hustlers like Cambage?

Cambage should be apologising to the Australian Olympic Committee and to Aboriginal teammate Maurice Longbottom.

Instead, the AOC has apologised to her, and the media rewards her appalling behaviour.

Cambage is a two-time Olympian, but last week staged a hissy fit over two pictures released by the AOC to promote our Olympic team.

One showed several white athletes, including wheelchair athlete Heath Davidson.

Cambage, daughter of a white mother and Nigerian father, decided this was racist: “HOW AM I MEANT TO REPRESENT A COUNTRY THAT DOESN’T EVEN REPRESENT ME.”

By which she meant it did not represent half her ancestry.

Cambage was even offended by a second photo which indeed showed an athlete “of colour” — Longbottom, even wearing a shirt with an Aboriginal design.

Cambage would not be appeased: “Also — fake tan doesn’t equal diversity.”

Fake tan? Cambage then raged in the language of a Harlem street kid, even though her executive white mum raised her in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula: “Y’all do anything to remove POC (People of Colour) from the forefront when it’s black athletes leading the pack. Until I see y’all doin more @AusOlympicTeam Imma sit this one out.”

Cambage should have been told, yes, she’d indeed stay home if she didn’t apologise. Her comments were offensive — even racist — to Longbottom, and a nasty slight on the AOC and white athletes. Why import the race politics, aggression and even accents of America into Australia?

Instead, white officials and journalists bowed and scraped, terrified of being called racist if they told Cambage to mind her manners. The AOC promised to do better, journalists praised her for “being strong”, and then there was the body suit.

End of racism protest!: “For everyone so desperately wondering what my decision is for the Opals, I’m in baby. I’m in baby! I’m in! Wooooo!”

As for everyone else, was it woooo to you, too? Or more aggro than this country needs?
