Andrew Bolt: Joe Biden’s decline clearly no secret

What competent US president would give away sensitive military technology to some bloke whose name he can’t remember even while staring at his face?

There’s one good reason not to cheer as if this new defence deal with the United States and Britain will save us from China.

That reason is senile Joe Biden.

It’s staggering to read that Biden “agreed for the first time in more than 50 years to share the secrets of America’s nuclear submarines” with an Australian Prime Minister whose name he forgot last week when announcing this breakthrough.

“I want to thank, uh, that fella from Down Under,” he mumbled.

This is not some insignificant memory lapse.

What competent and alert US president would give away America’s most sensitive military technology to some bloke whose name he can’t remember even while staring at his face?

In even the affairs of great states, there are the deals but then there’s the delivery.

If that wasn’t so, then France might still have the deal it signed with Australia to build us 12 diesel submarines.

But that’s now been torn up, and the US and Britain have agreed instead to help us build eight new nuclear submarines, and get more advance weaponry before China starts the war it’s been threatening.

That’s a good deal, but let’s now worry about the delivery.

The first of the new nuclear submarines probably won’t be ready for 10 to 15 years – perhaps too late – and who knows what else we’ll get in time for when any shooting starts?

That will depend a lot on the personal attention and drive of Biden, and that’s where we should worry.

It’s now beyond argument that 78-year-old Biden is in serious mental decline, and not very honest, either.

Check his astonishing failures with Afghanistan. It’s not just that Biden swore Afghanistan wouldn’t fall to the Taliban a month before it did, and said no American would be left behind before abandoning some 200.

As the Taliban approached Kabul, Biden even rang the Afghan president and asked him to lie – to “project a different picture”, “whether it is true or not”, to the impression “that things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban”.

And as the US quit Afghanistan, it left one ghastly parting impression in its panic – it blew up a car, killing an aid worker and nine children, that it falsely claimed was about to be used in a suicide attack on Kabul airport.

Biden now promises to help defend us against China.

Let’s hope he remembers us tomorrow, and what help we need.
