Andrew Bolt: How much longer can incompetent Joe Biden last?

The media ignored signs of Joe Biden’s mental decline but the Taliban has now made it brutally clear.

Joe Biden has 'put us in danger' amid fall of Afghanistan

Joe Biden became US president with the help of a media pack that ignored signs of the 78-year-old’s mental decline. But the Taliban has now made it brutally clear.

How much longer can Biden last? But is his vice president even remotely competent to replace him?

Biden seems befuddled by the most humiliating US setback since the fall of Saigon, triggered by his pig-headed decision to abruptly pull all US forces from Afghanistan.

He froze as Afghanistan instantly fell to the Taliban. For four days he was not seen in public and for two days after Kabul fell did not ring one world leader.

In his only sit-down interview since, he struggled to keep his train of thought or grip on facts.

He dismissed questions about the chaos at Kabul airport, with desperate Afghans falling from a US cargo plane, insisting that was “four days ago, five days ago”. It had happened just two days earlier.

He deflected criticism about abandoning Afghanistan by misremembering his son’s service record: “That’s like askin’ my deceased son Beau, who spent six months in Kosovo and a year in Iraq as a Navy captain and then major – I mean, as an Army major. And, you know, I’m sure he had regrets comin’ out of Afghanistan – I mean, out of Iraq.”

And he denied his military advisors had warned against pulling out so fast. Leaks to top US newspapers suggest the opposite.

Worse came in Friday’s brief press conference. Biden claimed at least al Qaeda was “gone” from Afghanistan. The Pentagon admitted this was false.

Biden also claimed there was “no indication” Americans in Kabul couldn’t reach the airport for evacuation. The Pentagon denied that, too.

Biden is clearly struggling to assess, remember, process, explain and simply cope. The consequences have been catastrophic for the US, and Biden is just seven months into his four-year term.

But who could replace him if it all gets too much? Next in line is Vice President Kamala Harris, a divisive figure with near-zero governing experience who was picked for being African/Indian and has since bungled her one big job – to curb rampant illegal immigration across the Mexican border.

She is easily the weakest VP since at least Dan Quayle, nearly 30 years ago. She’s certainly no Dick Cheney or George Bush Sr.

America has rarely looked so vulnerable.
