Andrew Bolt: Fight for Libs’ future will be vicious if Morrison is defeated

The fight for the Liberals’ future will be vicious if the Morrison Government is defeated this coming Saturday.

‘Dead giveaway’ many Liberal MPs think they are ‘goners’: Clennell

Matt Kean, the country’s most self-preening state Treasurer, showed the Liberals’ civil war will get toxic if, or when, it loses the federal election.

Kean is of the Turnbull Left of the NSW Liberals – in other words, the kind of Liberal who despises his party and would kick it to pieces the moment it did not include himself.

Too harsh? Then consider Kean’s appeal last week to back Jason Falinski, Dave Sharma and Trent Zimmerman, Liberal Leftists in danger of losing their seats to so-called climate “independents”.

“We’ve seen the impact of what happens when the centre right parties lose moderate voices,” Kean squawked.

“Look at the (US) Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, the party that abolished slavery, has now become the party of Trump, the party of Putin sympathisers and anti-vaxxers.”

This is pure Leftist idiocy twice over. First, the vast majority of US Republicans aren’t against vaccines. In fact, Donald Trump set up the successful “Operation Warp Speed” to develop and rush out vaccines.

Nor are they pro-Putin. Mitch McConnell, the Republicans’ Senate leader, led a delegation of Republican politicians to Ukraine just last Saturday to pledge their party’s support in the war against Putin’s Russia.

But worse than Kean’s pig-ignorant slur of the Republicans is his slur of his own Liberals.

He’s suggesting that without Sharma, Zimmerman and Falinski in NSW, or Tim Wilson in Victoria, the Liberals would be toxic nutters of the kind who’d back the Russian president, too.

This is insane. The strongest voices in parliament for freedom and against tyranny are not the likes of Zimmerman, but conservatives such as Defence Minister Peter Dutton, Andrew Hastie and James Paterson.

But Kean has just shown the fight for the Liberals’ future will be vicious when the Morrison Government is defeated.

Kean and Turnbull will jeer that the Liberals lost because they just weren’t Left-wing enough, especially on global warming, and many in the media will back them.

Conservatives, though, will say the most woke warmists in the party were exactly the ones most likely to lose their seats, and in heartland Liberal seats.

They’d say the Liberals’ real problem is that the party under Turnbull and Morrison didn’t fight for Liberal values, and was seen to stand for nothing. Under Dutton’s leadership, that would change.

Kean apparently thinks such a Liberal party would be evil. So Saturday’s election will settle one political fight, but for the Liberals the nastiest will come straight after.
