Andrew Bolt: FBI raids on Donald Trump reveal we’re in dangerous times for democracy
The FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Florida home will merely confirm for tens of millions of Republican voters the Deep State is subverting their democracy.

If I wanted to destroy faith in US democracy I’d do exactly what the vindictive Biden administration has just done to Donald Trump.
Send in the FBI. Storm Trump’s Florida mansion. Ransack his papers. And not explain this unprecedented raid on the home of a former president.
Is President Joe Biden nuts? Or is he now such a fumbling and mumbling wreck that he cannot stop his minions on the left from persecuting Trump to the point even Trump’s worst Republican rivals must defend him?
This guarantees Trump is a shoo-in to be the Republican’s next presidential candidate and a great chance to win the 2024 election.
More worrying, it will confirm for tens of millions of Republican voters the Deep State – headed by America’s security agencies – is subverting their democracy. That’s explosive.
This FBI raid was almost certainly approved by Biden’s Attorney-General, Merrick Garland, and authorised by a judge who donated $US2000 to Democrat president Barack Obama.
No official reason has yet been given for the raid, but media organisations claim “sources” say the FBI was looking for classified documents Trump allegedly removed from his office when he lost the presidency.
That’s right. The FBI wasn’t looking for a dead body. Just papers that should be in the national archives.
Not surprisingly, Trump denounced the raid as “prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponisation of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024”.
Even senior Republicans rivals trying to beat Trump to be the next president agreed with him. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis denounced the “weaponisation of federal agencies”, as did former secretary of state Mike Pompeo. Trump’s former vice-president Mike Pence expressed “deep concern”.
Be clear: I don’t trust Trump to always do the lawful thing, but even if this raid was legally justified, it was politically disastrous. It will throw petrol on America’s burning political divide.
American politicians used to be smarter, or more patriotic. There was a limit to tearing down political rivals. Hillary Clinton was never raided or prosecuted for unlawfully using a private server at her home with over 100 emails of classified information when she was Secretary of State.
But there are different rules for Trump. The Democrats are manic in trying to destroy him with state power.
No one looking at the persecution of Trump by the Democrats, FBI and others in the Deep State could now be sure justice is being done.
For much of Trump’s presidency, the FBI hounded him over fake allegations that he stole his election win by colluding with Russia – allegations concocted by people paid by Clinton’s Democrats.
Trump was then impeached for allegedly trying to blackmail Ukraine into investigating alleged corruption involving Joe Biden and son Hunter.
He was cleared by a vote in Congress but was impeached again and found guilty of inciting supporters to invade the US Congress on January 6 last year to stop Biden being declared winner of the election.
The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives has now been holding weeks of hearings into that riot – a show trial to damage Trump.
Meanwhile, district attorneys in New York and Manhattan, both Democrats, are individually investigating Trump’s business dealings, claiming fraud.
A Georgia district attorney, also Democrat, is leading a grand jury investigation into Trump’s alleged election interference.
And this week the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee won a court battle to force Trump to hand it his tax returns.
But Trump supporters are asking – not without justice – why the double standards? Where are the FBI raids on Biden and his son?
Hunter Biden abandoned his laptop at a repair shop, and the contents show him not just using drugs and prostitutes but exploiting his father’s position to make potentially compromising business deals in China and Ukraine. Hunter even apparently suggested a cut go to Joe Biden, “the Big Guy”.
When those emails were first published, before the 2020 election, about 50 former top intelligence officials, including former CIA bosses, claimed the laptop looked like Russian “disinformation”.
False. It’s been proved genuine.
The cream of the US security apparatus had just made things up to help Biden beat Trump, and now that same apparatus is used to nail Trump, perhaps stopping him from running again.
Let me repeat: Trump could be guilty of whatever the FBI is investigating. I don’t know.
But I do know many Americans have zero reason to trust what’s being done to him. Dangerous times.
