Andrew Bolt: Drought of logic in climate crusade

Labor needs to explain what it’s trying to change with its mega-billions global warming plan.

‘Totally unscientific’: Media is ‘scaring people’ with climate lies

The more I hear about Labor’s ginormous global warming plans, the more I wonder: what exactly is Labor trying to change?

About 15 years ago, the answer seemed obvious.

We had to stop the kind of drought we had back then.

That drought seemed permanent, warmists told us.

It was now “our new climate”, thanks to global warming, claimed the Bureau of Meteorology, and Tim Flannery, appointed chief climate commissioner by Labor, insisted “even the rain that falls will not actually fill our dams and our river systems”.

If that were true, this country faced a shocking crisis.

Flannery even tipped Perth would become the world’s first “ghost metropolis” this century as it ran out of water.

So I get why many people thought we had to “stop” global warming if it meant saving our cities from dying of thirst.

Tim Flannery.
Tim Flannery.

But now? What change is Labor trying to make to our weather?

The Bureau of Meteorology, which once told us drought was our “new climate”, now predicts a third straight year of La Niña conditions, which create above-average rainfall. Sydney has already recorded its most annual rain in 60 years.

This should be brilliant news.

Farmers just had another bumper year and the dams Flannery claimed would never fill are awash.

Sydney’s Warragamba Dam is 98 per cent full. Brisbane’s dams are 88 per cent, and Melbourne’s 92 per cent and rising – the highest in 25 years, despite Melbourne’s population growing by half.

Rain on the driest continent on Earth is actually like gold, but to urban journalists raised in thermostat-controlled temperatures the news of extra downpours is just another excuse for panic.

“Much of the drenching we’ve been copping has been associated with the current La Niña weather event, as well as the effects of climate change,” warned Channel 9.

“Unfortunately, we may need to wait a little while yet to get any relief from the downpours.”

News.com.au, the woke arm of the Murdoch media, even claimed “Australians are on edge over what the upcoming 2022-23 summer could hold for the country”, now that more rain – not drought – was predicted.

“On edge”? Yes, drought scares me. But rain?

So Labor should explain what it’s trying to change with its mega-billions global warming plan.

If this is the weather it plans to change, exactly how much less rain does it want? How much less rain will we get? How much more drought?

And is this really a smart idea?
