Andrew Bolt: Don’t the Left care about freedom, democracy and peace?

If Hamas surrendered, the killing would instantly end, and billions of dollars of aid would pour in. So why isn’t the Left demanding that surrender, for the sake of the Palestinians?

Just what we need – a “school strike for Palestine” on Thursday.

How many of these lecturing children could even find Gaza on a map?

This strike of the childish is backed by the usual suspects, including the Greens and Free Palestine Melbourne, whose organiser, Bella Beiraghi, writes for the Socialist Alternative, a hardline Marxist group.

No wonder these groups prey on children. It’s the young and foolish, ignorant of history, who are most likely to fall for their slogans.

So expect the children on Thursday to repeat one slogan I’ve heard at most of these hate-rallies against Israel: “Ceasefire now.”

By “ceasefire now”, they mean Israel should stop shooting, even though Hamas – which started this war on October 7 by butchering 1200 Jews and kidnapping 240 – is itself still shooting rockets at Israel.

Yes, Hamas really wants this war. Worse, it seems to me most protesters want Hamas to win it.

Oh, have I insulted you by putting you on the side of mass-murdering, head-hacking, pack-raping terrorists?

Then here’s a test to sort the anti-Israeli sheep from the pro-Hamas goats. Chant this instead: “Hamas, surrender.”

Hamas should surrender because it can’t win – or not in the conventional way. Israel has conquered most of Gaza City and there’s no way Hamas can militarily drive it out.

Yet Hamas is still shooting from hospitals and crowds, and Palestinian civilians are dying in the crossfire. For what?

If Hamas surrendered, the killing would instantly end, and billions of dollars of aid would pour in.

So why isn’t the Left demanding that surrender, for the sake of the Palestinians?

After all, see how angry they get when these pro-Palestinian protesters are called pro-Hamas. “Hamas doesn’t represent the Palestinians,” we’re told by the apologists.

Fine, I’m happy to go along with that line, even though the people of Gaza did vote for Hamas in their one and only election 17 years ago, and got an Islamist police state ever since.

But if Hamas doesn’t represent Palestinians, then what’s the big problem with saying “Hamas, surrender”?

Unless you actually want Hamas to win this war.

If Hamas surrenders, the people of Gaza can finally demand another election and choose new leaders who – please, God – won’t drag them into another genocidal war. Who can finally be trusted enough to make true peace with Israel at last.

Don’t the Left care about freedom and democracy and peace? Then say it: “Hamas, surrender.”
