Andrew Bolt: Daniel Andrews’ white elephant should be kept as a reminder
Victoria’s empty Covid quarantine centre should be kept to shame our politicians for stirring fake fears. Maybe it can scare Dan Andrews out of other insane plans.

Don’t touch them. Leave those empty virus quarantine centres – one in Victoria and the other in Queensland – to shame our politicians. And maybe ourselves.
Take Victoria’s quarantine facility at Mickleham. Premier Daniel Andrews helped to force the Morrison government to spend $580m to build a facility which opened only last February and housed just 2168 people.
Let him keep seeing this elephant so white that it cost $267,000 for each person who used it.
Maybe it will scare Andrews out of his insane plan for a circle rail line linking outer suburbs of Melbourne to other outer suburbs you wouldn’t want to visit – at a cost that’s already blown out by $75bn.
Same deal with the Queensland Regional Accommodation Centre, which Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had built in April, long after the pandemic panic eased, and which has been empty for more than two months.
Only 713 people ever used a 1000-bed centre that’s cost $237m to build, lease and operate. That’s more than $323,000 per person.
Maybe the sight of it will make Palaszczuk reconsider her ridiculous gamble of spending $62bn on unreliable green energy and switching off coal-fired generators by 2035. Is she sure she can predict the future?
But we can’t leave all those rooms empty, so fill them with other warnings – this time to the rest of us – not to trust scaremongers in politics, media and academia.
Let’s have a Flannery room, with sand from the 2007 drought which our Bureau of Meteorology claimed would be our new climate, and which Tim Flannery said would leave our dams dry.
Create a Bowen room, featuring the $110,000 electric ute that Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen last month promoted in his campaign to ban cheaper petrol cars. Put next to it the battery that takes nearly $50,000 to replace.
We must have an Albanese room, with coal that once gave us cheap and reliable power, 24/7. Add $275 in notes to remind us of the Prime Minister’s fake claim that switching to green power will save each household that much.
We also need a Coral room, to remind us of the global warmists who conned us into spending billions to “save” a “dying” reef that actually has record coral cover.
And a Mask room filled with masks the virus bullies made us wear even in the open air.
Make a museum of fake scares. Don’t let these quarantine centres go to waste.
