NT Police dog finds 1.6kg of cannabis in East Arnhem community

Thousands of bags of cannabis have been found in an East Arnhem residence after a search by an NT Police dog.

AN NT Police dog search has dug up 1600 bags of cannabis in an East Arnhem community.

Dog Operations found the drugs in a search of a residence on Tuesday afternoon.

A large bag wrapped in black tape was found to be concealing around 1.6kg of the illicit substance.

Police arrested a 21-year-old at the scene who was then charged with supply a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 drug and administering a dangerous drug to self.

“This is fantastic effort by the dog handler and his K9, who have intercepted what would have been a large quantity of drugs in a vulnerable community,” Acting Senior Sergeant Riva Zio said.

Police remind anyone with information on the transportation of drugs into remote communities to contact authorities or Crime Stoppers.
