Woman’s body found at Gunnedah property during police welfare check

A man has been arrested after a woman’s body was found in the state’s North West during a welfare check. Here’s the latest.

A man has been arrested after a woman’s body was found during a welfare check in the state’s North West.

At about 8.20am on Friday, Oxley Police District officers were called to a property on Henry St, Gunnedah, following reports of a concern for welfare.

On arrival at the home, police found the body of a woman. She is yet to be formally identified, however, is believed to be aged in her 50s.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries. He has not been charged.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the man and woman are known to each other, a NSW Police spokesperson said.

A crime scene has been established which will be forensically examined by specialist police.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
