A father and son have been chargedafter a wild brawl involving dozens of tradies broke out at a construction site in Sydney’s north west on Tuesday.
It comes after minute-long footage of the fight emerged, in which a large number of tradies can be seen attacking each other with a flurry of punches and kicks as well as smacking each other over the head with hard hats.
The incident unfolded shortly before 7am on Tuesday, when officers responded to reports of a brawl involving more than 20 people in Sexton Ave in Castle Hill.
The video show some of the wearing Meriton branded hi-vis.
A Meriton spokesman on Tuesday afternoon said no direct Meriton employees were involved in the scuffle outside its Castle Hill construction site, but confirmed some contractors involved in the fight had been immediately terminated.
The all-in brawl broke out in the middle of the street before splitting into several smaller fights, lasting several minutes.
By the time police arrived, most of those involved had already dispersed.
Paramedics treated two men, aged 43 and 55, at the scene before they were taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.
Detective Superintendent Naomi Moore on Wednesday confirmed one man received a laceration to his eye “that required some stitches”, and the other suffered a broken nose. “They were released within a couple of hours following that treatment,” she said.
Following inquiries, a 42-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested at Castle Hill Police Station on Wednesday. Police confirmed the pair are father and son.
The 42-year-old man was charged with intimidation and affray.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on July 16.
The 22-year-old man was charged with intimidation, affray and assault. He was also granted conditional bail to appear before the same court on the same date.
“There’s significant footage in nearby locations to that scene that is much clearer and we’ll be very clearly able to identify those parties,” Detective Superintendent Moore said.
“We encourage those people to come forward at a time that’s convenient to them, preferably today, before we go and knock on their door because that will be happening.”
The Meriton spokesman said that no direct Meriton employees were involved.
“The contractors involved in the fight have been immediately terminated,” they said.
“Appropriately, the local police were called who have since intervened and we have ascertained that there were no serious injuries.”
“Meriton promotes safety and does not condone any violent or threatening behaviour on its job sites, whether employees, subcontractors or visitors.”
