Two bodies discovered in Forestville granny flat on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

Neighbours have described a pair who were found dead inside a Northern Beaches granny flat as “nice people” who had lived there for about six months, as police probe their deaths.

The bodies of a man and woman have been found inside a granny flat in Sydney’s northern beaches, sparking a police investigation.

Officers were called to a home on Cannons Parade in Forestville shortly before 9.30pm on Wednesday night after concerns were raised for the welfare of the occupants.

Neighbours reported not seeing the residents for several days, leading to the call to police.

When officers arrived, they searched the property and found two bodies inside the granny flat at the rear of the home.

The bodies are yet to be formally identified.

Police are keeping all lines of inquiry open, and treating the situation as suspicious, as they still search for the cause of death of the man, aged in his 40s, and woman, aged in her early 50s.

Superintendent John Duncan refused to rule out the possibility of a murder suicide.

“We’re keeping all options open,” he said.

“That’s one of the options, but there are many others.”

The pair, believed to be a couple, were known to police in NSW and Queensland, before being found late Wednesday night, with cuts in their property.

Police, with the help of Fire and Rescue had to forcefully make their way into the flat, after a member of the community expressed concerns for pair and their three pets.

It came after the pair had not been seen since the weekend.

The couple was not known to police for domestic violence matters.

Upon arrival police found the two bodies in the “small granny flat” along with two dogs and a cat which have been taken to a local vet clinic.

It’s is still unclear how long the bodies and pets were in the property for.

A neighbour the pair had rented the granny flat about six months ago.

The neighbour said they “looked like nice people,” occasionally interacting with neighbours on the street.

The neighbour said there had been no suspicious activity in the lead-up to last night’s events.

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
