An “amateur mistake” by Alen Moradian's alleged killer allowed detectives to recover several key pieces of evidence within the first hour of the underworld kingpin being shot dead, police will allege in court.

Dut Deng, the man charged with pulling the trigger to murder feared gangster Moradian, was allegedly caught on CCTV trying to set on fire the Porsche SUV he and alleged getaway driver Indiana Jones had driven from Bondi Junction to Waverley on June 27 last year.

It is alleged he doused both the inside and outside of the Porsche in fuel, before setting it alight and running away.

Court documents reveal that as Deng allegedly did so he shut the car door behind him, starving the fire of the oxygen it needed to burn.

“He (Deng) closed the door, starving the fire of oxygen, this extinguished the fire and preserved several items (allegedly) used in connection with the murder of Alen Moradian,” the documents said.

Dut Deng has been charged with murder over the shooting of Alen Moradian.

Alen Moradian was executed in a Bondi car park in broad daylight.

A handgun recovered by NSW Police just after the shooting quickly made headlines with TV cameras capturing the moment investigators removed it from the wreckage of the grey Porsche SUV.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal what TV cameras did not capture that day, was that on top of the 9mm pistol, police also allegedly seized a GPS tracker, a jerry can and various clothes from the Porsche.

The GPS tracker had allegedly been removed from the Bentley driven by Alen Moradian’s wife Natasha hours earlier.

Court documents reveal that police allege Deng and Jones sat patiently in the underground carpark of Moradian’s Bondi Junction apartment block for 12 hours, until the crime kingpin got into his Audi R6 sedan – at which point it is alleged Deng opened fire.

The two men had allegedly followed a resident’s car into the carpark just after 7.26pm on June 26 and remained there until 8.11am the next morning.

From the Bondi Junction underground carpark they allegedly drove to James St in Waverley, where a second getaway car was waiting.

After leaving the Porsche on James St, unaware it had failed to catch fire, Deng and Jones allegedly drove across Sydney in a red Holden Cruze sedan to Zetland.

There, a third getaway car – a blue Toyota Camry – had allegedly been parked by an associate in preparation for the hit.

Police will allege that having successfully set the red Holden Cruze alight, Deng and Jones got into the Toyota – which unlike the high-performance vehicles often sought for a getaway after a shooting, blended in better with the morning peak hour traffic.

NSW Police have charged a total of seven men for their alleged involvement in Moradian’s killing, two of the most recent being Indiana Jones last month and Dut Deng in January, both of whom are charged with murder, and remain behind bars on remand yet to enter pleas.
