Senior NSW media advisor charged over child abuse material, drug possession

A senior NSW departmental media advisor has been charged with possession of child abuse material and prohibited drugs. Here is what we know.

A senior NSW departmental media advisor has been charged with possession of child abuse material and prohibited drugs.

NSW Police charged NSW Corrective Services media advisor Matt Bachl, 38, at Chatswood on Friday before he appeared in Hornsby Local Court.

Bachl was charged with two counts of possession child abuse material and one count possession of a prohibited drug.

“Following an investigation by Sydney City Police Area Command under Strike Force Saltia, detectives executed a search warrant at a Chatswood unit just after 6am today, seizing electronic devices and gamma butyrolactone (GBL),” a NSW Police spokesman said.

“The occupant, a 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.”

The man was initially refused bail to appear at court, before being granted conditional bail.

No plea was entered.

He was granted bail with conditions and will appear back in Hornsby Local Court on April 9.
