A prison officer has resigned after an inmate alleged the staff member had “flashed” him and gifted him a box of chocolates.
The inmate is serving a sentence for break and enter offences at the privately-run Clarence Correctional Centre in Grafton.
It is understood he was in the special management area placement (SMAPS) section of the jail when the incidents are alleged to have occurred.
The Sunday Telegraph understands the prison officer was also a trade teacher at the jail.
It is understood the allegations were made in writing to prison operators Serco earlier this month, with the officer suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.
A source familiar with the investigation said there was evidence of the contraband offence.
It is understood the alleged sexual misconduct was being separately investigated by the Department of Corrective Services.
It is not clear if this was substantiated before the prison officer resigned.
Serco declined to comment.
